HYALURONIC ACID: WHAT IS IT?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced by the body . For example, it occurs in our joints, which allows us to move them smoothly. But it is also an important element in our skin, because it helps wounds to heal and above all: retain moisture . Unfortunately, this wonderful substance diminishes as we age. And then we should reach for products that contain this ingredient, if we want to keep our skin youthful for as long as possible.

HOW DOES HYALURONIC ACID WORK?

Hyaluronic acid attracts water from the subcutaneous tissue and even from the air and then retains it on the skin. one gram of hyaluronic acid can hold no less than six liters of water. Six liters! It is a so-called humectant, and loves water. Even more impressive, hyaluronic acid can do this for your skin without overdoing it and over-watering the skin. Excess can (surprisingly) also hurt moisture levels, as it breaks down substances that usually keep the skin's surface intact. In addition, hyaluronic acid revitalizes the skin separately from the surface layer, so that the skin appears softer, smoother and more radiant. This also softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. A nice side effect: it is suitable for all skin types, including (allergy) sensitive skin, even prone to rosacea.

WHAT CAN YOU DO WRONG WITH HYALURONIC ACID?

If you don't use hyaluronic acid correctly, it can backfire. The biggest mistake is to apply a hyaluronic acid or serum to dry skin . If you already have dry skin and the ambient air is dry, like in winter, you will just draw the moisture out of your skin. And of course we don't want that.

HOW TO USE HYALURONIC ACID CORRECTLY ON YOUR SKIN?

Always apply hyaluronic serum to damp skin , and preferably also in a damp environment, eg. when you just got out of the shower. Apply a moisturizing cream immediately afterwards , so that you enclose the product, as it were.
